Taekwondo’s history is just as awesome as it is popular. Any student deserves to learn about the significance of the art, it’s history cherished and kept dignified, especially amongst it’s practitioners. The essence of taekwondo’s history and spirit seeps into our minds every time we tie our belt and perform our poomse.
With respect, we accept and understand that while we cannot do justice to the richness of Korean history, we hope you will take some time and read something about the events, which helped form Korea and taekwondo.
The birth of martial arts inevitably begins with the birth of mankind. Born out of a basic instinct to survive dangerous and life-threatening situations biting, butting, choking, elbowing, grabbing, kicking, kneeing, locking, punching, slapping, shouting, throwing, trapping and tripping were and still are basic methods of defending oneself using only the body. No technique is superior to another technique. If the application is correct they all work beautifully. Thus opens the history books on martial arts and in this case, taekwondo, the national and traditional martial art of Korea.
