KUP GRADE PATTERNS: Kup grades or colour belts learn 'Taegeuk poomsae'. There are eight basic 'taegeuk' poomsae for Kup grades to learn. These are patterns of modern fighting sequences stemming from eight major branches of philosophical theories, each of which is represented by respective characters known as trigrams. Each poomsae is a training pattern upon which a competence and understanding of taekwondo is built, demonstrated and nurtured. They all embody all the principles of natural phenomena. Accordingly, taegeuk poomsae are represented by a trigram. As you move along the movement lines bear in mind their main priniple theory.
